Baerbel Johnson to speak at CO -PAL -AM Spring Seminar

Colorado Chapter, Palatines to America (CO-PAL-AM) is having their Spring All-Day Seminar on Saturday, 26 April 2008. The event will feature key speaker, Baerbel Johnson. Baerbel was born in Germany and is a professional genealogists. She works at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City as an International Reference Consultant and holds degrees in Family and Local History and Sociology from BYU.

Morning Schedule:

    8:30 - Registration

    9:00-10:20 - “What I’ve Always Wanted to Know About German Research, but . . .” a discussion moderated by Bill Nix.

    9:00-10:20 - “Basic German Genealogical Research” presented by Ann Lisa Pearson.

    10:30-11:40 - “Strategies For Solving German Research problems” presented by Baerbel Johnson.

Buffet Luncheon

Afternoon Schedule:

    1:00-2:20 - “German Research on the Internet” presented by Baerbel Johnson.

    2:40-4:00 - “Avoiding Mistakes in German Research” present by Baerbel Johnson.

The seminar is will held at the Holiday Inn - Lakewood, 7390 W. Hampden (S. E. Corner of Wadsworth and W. Hampden). Cost for the seminar is $35 members, $45 non-members. Pre-registration is necessary.

March genealogy column

Julie Miller’s monthly column is in the 16 March 2008 edition of the Broomfield Enterprise. The topic for March is KC Place to be for genealogy come May. The column highlights the upcoming National Genealogical Conference which will be held 16-17 May in Kansas City.

National Genealogical Society Conference in Kansas City

The National Genealogical Society (NGS) will be holding their annual conference Show Me the Nation’s Records in Kansas City, Missouri from May 14th to the 17th. The conference will be held downtown at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center and the adjoining exhibit hall. Everything will be under one roof.

The program will have over 166 lectures and workshops during the four day conference. Several Colorado people will be speaking at the conference.

Lloyd Bockstruck to speak at CGS Annual Seminar

Lloyd Bockstruck, M.A., MLS, FNGS will be the featured speaker at the Colorado Genealogical Society’s (CGS) annual seminar on 18-19 April 2008.

Mr. Bockstruck is a Historian, Librarian, Lecturer, and Author. He is a Senior Faculty Member, IGHR, Samford University and supervisor of the genealogy section at the Dallas Public Library.

Friday night’s program will take place during the Society’s regular meeting held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2300 S. Patton Court, Denver, 7-9 pm. The topic will be “Research Along the Ohio River.” The meeting is free and open to the public.

Saturday’s program will be held at the Denver Public Library Conference Center, 13th and Broadway, Denver from 10 am-4 pm. The cost of the all day seminar is $30, with an optional lunch offered.

The topics to be presented are:

  • Arriving in Missouri
  • Where We Lived
  • What We Did
  • Who Stayed, Who Left, Why?
