Dr. James G. Ryan to speak at W.I.S.E. seminar

Dr. James G. Ryan, Ph.D., from County Dublin, Ireland, will be the featured speaker at the Wales. Ireland. Scotland. England Family History Society (W.I.S.E.) seminar on Saturday, 8 November 2008.

Dr. Ryan is the author of Irish Records-Sources for Family History & Local History, Tracing your Dublin Ancestors, Irish Church Records, and Sources for Irish Family History.

The seminar will be held at the Denver Public Library Conference Center, 13th and Broadway, Denver from 9 am-4 pm. The cost of the all day seminar is $25 if paid by 1 November, $30 if paid after that date.

The topics to be presented are:

  • Basic Irish Genealogy
  • Irish Church Records
  • Irish Catholic Records
  • Online Resources for Irish Research

FGS Conference to be held in Philadelphia

The Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) will be holding their annual conference Footprints of Family History in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 3-6 September 2008.

The conference will be held downtown at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and there are several places close to the conference for research: The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, NARA-Mid-Atlantic Region, Free Library of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia City Archives.

    Saturday, 6 September, 8 a.m., “Google’s Not the Only Game in Town”
    Saturday, 6 September, 11 a.m., “Beyond Population Schedules”

FGS announced this week a “Bring the Whole Gang” member society discount. The discount will be given to
