Virginia Sanchez, past president of the Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogists, received the Humanitarian Award at the 28th Hispanic Annual Salute (HAS) on 16 February 2008. HAS recognizes and encourages volunteerism, supports post-secondary education and fosters unity, cooperation and loyalty among Hispanics.

Virginia was given the award for her part in producing Hispanic Pioneers in Colorado and New Mexico, a photobook tracing the history of Hispanics in the Rocky Mountain region published in 2006 by the Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogists.
