1930 Census shows when serial killer lived in Colorado
It was in the news this past week that Harvey Glatman, the well known ’50s California serial killer, is a suspect in the 1954 murder of Boulder’s famous Jane Doe.
A story in the Rocky Mountain News reported that Harvey moved to Colorado in 1938. However, he can be found living in Denver as early as 1930. In the 1930 Census [1], Harvey is living with his parents in a house that they rented for $60 a month at 1058 Garfield Steet, Denver. The Glatman’s owned a radio and the divorced owner of the house, Selig Goldstoff, lived in part of the house.[1]

According to the census, his father, Abe, was a WWI veteran and a salesman of wholesale millinery. [1]
His mother, Ophelia, worked in a retail store as a milliner. She immigrated to the U.S. from Poland in 1905. [1] Ophelia Glatman died August 1968 in Denver.[2]
Harvey spent time in the Colorado State Penitentiary. He was inmate number 23863 and appears in the Colorado State Penitentiary Index on the Colorado State Archives Web site.
Harvey was executed on 18 September 1959 in Marin Co., California. The California Death Index lists 10 December 1927 as his birth date and Gold as his mother’s maiden name.[3]
Two articles written by Bill Scanlon about Glatman and the Boulder case can be found in the 17 March 2006 issue of the Rocky Mountain News: “Serial Killer May be tied to ‘54 death” and “Killer was Strange from the start”
