Nineteen Colorado counties restricting access
On 20 January 2006 and 9 February 2006, we reported that divorce and probate records were being closed to the public in Colorado. There are now nineteen (19) Colorado counties which have closed probate and divoce files to all but those named in the file. The action has been taken by the counties in reaction to the state Supreme Court regulation restricting access to certain parts of the court files which contain private information such as social security numbers.
The nineteen counties are:
- Adams
- Arapahoe
- Broomfield
- Chaffee
- Custer
- Delta
- Douglas
- Elbert
- Fremont
- Gilpin
- Gunnison
- Hinsdale
- Jefferson
- Lincoln
- Mesa
- Montrose
- Ouray
- Park
- San Miguel
The Denver Post article from Sunday, 12 March 2006, reports that the public continues to lose access to files in Colorado.
